Obesity Disability
What does it mean to have an obesity disability?
Ask a 425-pound man who fears death by morbid obesity disability to turn around a disabling lifestyle. Lack of activity combined with morbid obesity disables him. Watch his video. Hear his story. He’ll tell you.
I was down. I don’t want to live like that anymore. Being like that’s not living.
Back home on the ranch in Texas, he goes from his bed on a walker to a golf cart. Then, from the golf cart he gets to his truck and drives to town for a fast food spree. Meanwhile, he never gets out of his truck and the only walking he does is with a walker for less than ten feet.
As a result, he has an obesity disability.
Bedridden, except for the daily food binge catches up with him. He’s 425 pounds and can’t qualify for a knee replacement.
Smoking with COPD
Obesity disability along with a long-time smoking habit are two serious comorbidities when he is hit with Covid.
Long-term hospitalization follows multiple emergency visits. Covid worsens his COPD condition. Smoking, obesity, along with a sedentary bedridden lifestyle require oxygen just to use the walker to the bathroom.
Heading to Live-in Weight Loss Retreat
One Zoom interactive assessment with Debra determines what he can do and a routine is set. Accountability for the daily routine goes on for about a week. Then, he realizes he needs rapid progress to achieve his goal as a surgery candidate. By the following week, he arrives and the journey officially begins. His 100-pound journey starts with a scale weight of 423 pounds. On the morning of day 17, he weighs 389. Losing an average of two pounds daily, by way of proper nutrition and a mobility routine, he is ecstatic.
Average weight loss with obesity disability
First of all, the disabled obese man is hardly fit to stand for 30 seconds with the assistance of a walker. Therefore, he is not capable of strenuous exercise. So, mobility movement sequences are his daily drill. Yet, he continues to lose satisfactory weight toward his 100-pound weight loss goal. Keep in mind, that he remains quite sedentary because he fatigues easily. COPD causes him to get out of breath easily.
As a matter of reference, Bariatric MD patient forms state,
“In the first 30 days, most people meet or exceed the average monthly weight loss after gastric sleeve. The post-surgical diet of mostly liquids and pureed foods facilitates rapid changes. On average, you could lose about 5 pounds a week.”
He’s 34.5 pounds down in 17 days losing over two pounds daily surpassing surgical weight loss of five pounds a week.
Therefore, non-surgical healthy weight loss surpasses surgical weight loss and is achievable with a weight loss coach in the right environment. We are in a residence, not a hospital or weight loss clinic.
