Fitness Meditation on a Stability Ball?
Paul Chek, the holistic guru and master trainer of the fitness industry for over 25 years, offers a great fitness meditation for those who are moving centered!
Paul offers a video on his post, “How to Meditate on a Swiss Ball”.
Fitness meditation is an awesome alternative for those who are moving centered as opposed to intellectually centered. Some people simply cannot get comfortable with the idea of sitting still to meditate. Paul Check is known for the simplicity in which he teaches the principles of using activity to heal the body, mind, and spirit.
The breathing and core control required while exercising on a ball will immediately center you into a single focus laser-like mindset. For some of us it is almost impossible to achieve this state sitting still!
Paul Chek is the holistic guru of all fitness industry master trainers for over 25 years. In fact, he is the genius master physical therapist who introduced the exercise ball to the fitness industry bringing it over from the physical therapy world where it was used for over 50 years for rehabilitation exercise. Every self-respecting fitness studio on the planet uses these exercise balls and they are most commonly used for abdominal workouts. The core control required on the ball is second to none.
Just yesterday, I had a client arrive for training so upset with the recent events of his personal problems that he wanted to download all the upsetting details to me before he could do his workout.
The mind cannot differentiate between actual events and imagined events happening to you when you are highly emotionally charged as though you are reliving the experience. Your increased mental stress creates a negatively charged physical state that is out of control. If I allowed the client to continue reliving these emotionally charged details while telling me about the events it would cause him to return to a negatively charged peak emotional state. Yet he could not help himself and I had to deal with it.
So I asked him to stop talking about his problems long enough to try a couple of exercises on the stability ball.
When I saw how totally into it he was, I progressed to the TRX for some challenging core exercises done horizontally using the foot stirrups. He did the atomic push up, mountain climbers, pikes and side tucks.
There was no need for further discussion and the workout was well under way. The focus on balance, core control and breathing changed his mental state instantly!
Seriously, if you can use such a simple method to regain focus and sharpen it to a single pointed mental state…
Who says you have to sit still to meditate?
