  • Bicycle Safety

Safety is the first consideration as advocated by the League of American Cyclists. A variety of route progressions to build skill, confidence, strength, and endurance will keep you safe and get you fit. Above all, safety rules and guidelines are in place.

  • Biking on Multi-use Trails

Our paved trails accommodate two-way pedestrian and cycling travel. Therefore, rules of the road and trail are a priority. Henderson’s trail system is known for being well-maintained and supervised. You will ride single-speed bikes and 26” mountain bikes at the bike retreat.

  • Weather for Southern Nevada in Henderson

Sunny Southern Nevada weather averages 300 days of sunshine a year and minimal rainfall, so there are virtually no insects.

  • Biking for fitness

Daily focus is on fitness biking and a variety of weight training. Also included are cardio activities, including jump rope, kettlebell, and rowing.

  • Fueling and Hydrating for Bike Adventures

Whole foods are available during the grocery tour for self-preparation. In addition, bottled water is abundant in the well-stocked water pantry.

  • Seasonal Schedule at the Bike Retreat

Group activities are on schedule starting as early as 5:30 AM varying seasonally. Rates are consistent and non-negotiable. However, family rates may be available depending on the length of stay and season.

  • Bike Retreat Trail and Maps

At the biking retreat, fitness is the goal. Although some of the routes are suitable trails for fitness biking, others require intermediate skills. These routes will not feature highly technical challenges. So, if you are an advanced cyclist seeking thrills and risky biking, we don’t do that.

WHAT BIKING RETREAT CLIENTS SAY

Biking Retreat 7 Visits – Introduction by Aussie on 7th Annual Retreat

Ben completed his 7th annual weight loss retreat coming to my fitness residence from Australia. To date, his average stay has been 4-6 weeks in residence biking for weight loss and fitness.

Best Time of Year for a Biking Retreat in Las Vegas?

Ben has attended the live-in fitness camp at different times of the year and calls it an “evergreen” program. Therefore, it is effective at any time or season. Recently, he decided to avoid the winters in Australia by coming to Southern Nevada during our summer.

Biking Outdoors Year-Round? How does that work in the Summer?

People ask how can I operate a Southern Nevada fitness camp outdoors in the summer. Actually, it is my favorite time to do it. Fortunately, summer daylight is 5:15 AM and a beautiful time of day. Moreover, the temperature stays rather tolerable until the late morning after we have enjoyed our outdoor activities.

Longer Summer Days

Longer days make it possible to enjoy an evening outing because it doesn’t get dark until close to 9 p.m. So, we go to the indoor pool at midday followed by an afternoon siesta. Then, yoga to stretch and relax before retiring rounds out a perfect day of activities.

This has been my seventh visit from Australia to Debra’s Fitness retreat in Henderson, Nevada. Along with my previous visits, the results for my weight and fitness have been fantastic again. So, I’ve been able to lose 17 pounds in 24 days, including four inches from around my waist.

  • Ben – 35-42 years old

Why 7 Visits for Debra’s Biking Retreat?

In addition to the variety of outdoor boot camp activities, cycling proves to offer quick results for my fitness and weight loss. The trail system has something for the novice to the advanced. Furthermore, Debra maintains a high level of safety standards on all adventures providing excellent cycling coaching and equipment.

Coming here was a great decision because I actually learned how to ride a bike. So, I graduated from not being able to pedal or even steer a tricycle correctly to progressing to the beach cruiser. Finally, a mountain bike with hand brakes is a huge accomplishment.

  • Matt – 39-45 years old

Hello, I’m Matt from Denver for my fifth time with Debra Stefan at her fitness camp in beautiful Henderson, Nevada. I come to work out and do a lot of mountain biking. Debra is the perfect coach and host, extremely knowledgeable, and exceptionally motivating.

  • Jane – 37 years old

The things I really liked about coming to Debra’s are just the variety of exercises outdoors. So even in winter in Vegas you can still enjoy walking and cycling.

  • Chad – 26 years old

I did a 20-mile bike ride from the Las Vegas home all the way to Boulder Beach. Absolutely, unbelievable because I hated the bike. As a result, I had a great time riding 20 miles on a bicycle.

  • Kay – 52 years old

In the beginning I really did not like biking. Then I enjoyed it tremendously, so much so that we bought the same bike when we got home- his and hers!

  • Levy – 42 years old

I have conquered the trike. So, I rode three miles on the trike and I finally beat it. Therefore, me and the trike have become as one.

  • Steve – 37 years old

I never thought I would like biking, and I’m excited to get home and get myself a bike due to my progress here. I mean, we’ve done 18-mile bike rides, 20-mile bike rides. It’s not the same ride every time. So, it’s great and doesn’t get boring.

  • Dave – 70 years old

You’ll learn so much, and we go out, ride bikes in the countryside, do trails, climb mountains. For example, I did an 18-mile bike ride the other day up and down, where we climbed up 1,500 feet.

  • Walt – 80 years old

I couldn’t be more pleased with what’s happened to my father at 80 years old. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what your age is. If my 80-year-old father can do it, anybody can do it!

  • Dorothy – 50 years old

Bike riding has turned out to be my favorite exercise ever. To begin with, I haven’t really been on a bike since I was a kid. Now, going on a mountain bike ride for 15 miles up and down hills without stopping was a huge accomplishment.

  • Fred – 71 years old

I’m a 71-year-old man and I do not have a bike, but I can assure you when I get home, my wife and I will both get one and start enjoying some of the fun things you can do riding. So, I’m really looking forward to that where I haven’t been on a bike since I was a little kid.

  • Donald – 42 years old

My aerobic capacity increased quite a bit. Thanks to the use of different bikes, mountain biking and climbing mountains. You, Debra, have been super nice to us all and very accommodating. If we want filet mignon, we will get filet mignon. You open your house for us, which is very nice.

  • Wala – 32 years old

I haven’t been on a bike since I was seven years old. When I got here, I was on the trike. How heavy my legs were! I couldn’t pedal, I couldn’t move. Then, I progressed from the tricycle to the single-speed bike. Then, to the mountain bike, and I could bike for five miles. So, that’s something really unbelievable, truly liberating.

  • Mahmood – 33 years old

This is a great outdoor biking adventure that provides health benefits and is an exceptional recreational activity.

  • Kala – 21 years old

Pushing myself to the limits, then “oh, these are not my limits. I can go more and more and more.” It was so great I could pick up my pace easily, and push myself up hills with a bike.

  • Vik – 39 years old

This was a unique, very specialized program that is not available anywhere in the country. This is tough but good; very good. I loved every minute of it. Now let’s go for a bike ride.

  • Maria

While many people have not bicycled in years, the skill is a bio-motor pattern etched at a young age. Therefore, it is a given that it can come back naturally. Safety practices and proper use of bicycle gears introduce you to an outdoor adventure for both health and recreation.

Hadn’t been on a bike since I was 8 years old, but even after 60 years, I got it back!

Fred W., Monterrey, CA

My balance was iffy, so the trike liberated me on the bike trails.

Hal B., Sherman Oaks, CA

Triathlon training on the challenge hills got me in peak shape riding only cruisers and mountain bikes.

Matt B., Denver, CO

Debra had bikes for our entire group and no one was left behind. She educated us from A-Z for biking.

Grace S., Jakarta, Indonesia

Fitness Biking for Bike Fitness

Fitness biking has become popular for those with arthritis or other orthopedic conditions. Gordon Blackburn, M.D., Program Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Cardiac Rehabilitation, suggests a stationary bicycle. However, most people find greater exercise adherence with outdoor biking.

Outdoor Cycling vs Stationary Cycling

Approach outdoor cycling with some practical instruction to guarantee the most positive experience. So, before joining a group of experienced riders, make sure that you have been to a bike camp for safety guidance that many take for granted.

Christian Weight Loss Camp-Faith the Size of a 450Lb Man

By |General Fitness, Obesity Camp|

Obesity has become increasingly prevalent and weight loss surgeries are on the rise. However, the risks of weight loss surgery have brought a new meaning to fat farms and new hope for many. Television reality shows feature obese and morbidly obese people as they eat healthy and exercise to reinvent themselves. If national television proves that it can be done the right way, just what does a day-to-day scenario really look like?

Bike Retreat Fitness and Outdoor Biking

This section is normally referred to as “Hazards and Risks” of outdoor biking. However, outdoor cycling offers the best training element–Mother Nature. Sitting on an indoor stationary bike and pressing buttons to add or reduce resistance doesn’t allow you to react.

Mother Nature’s Workout -Outdoor Biking

Sure, there is an indoor bike program that allows you to randomize resistance. Still, it is not the same when you control it. The victory when prevailing in challenging conditions is sweeter than any computer challenge. Besides, it excites the senses sharpening reactions demanding focus. So, can’t watch TV at the same time!

Learn the League of American Bicyclists Best Biking Practices

By now, you know that Debra Stefan is the 2020 Educator of the Year with the League of American Bicyclists. At Debra’s bike fitness camp, you learn safe bicycle handling skills and get fit while biking for weight loss. As a result, you learn to love outdoor biking more than ever.

  • Road Hazards – The Centers for Disease Control reports that bicycling-related emergency room visits exceed half-a-million annually. Unfortunately, more than half of all bicycle-related accidents are children. However, biking teaches good driving habits for life. So, learn early.

  • Know and follow traffic rules. Use hand signals to alert motorists and other cyclists when turning or changing lanes.

  • Wear a helmet that fits. Wear the helmet so that it comes down to the eyebrow line in order to protect the brain frontal lobe. This is the most likely point of impact should you take a fall and hit your head. Avoid dropping your helmet as it reduces the protective ability. Helmets are not optional on any self-respecting group bike ride.

  • Bike Safety Visibility – Always wear brightly-colored clothes during the day and reflective materials at night. You can use a visibility vest as your top layer. Also, neon-colored armbands that light up are available. Make sure that your bike has adequate rear red lights and daylight in front of the handlebars

  • Gloves – Wearing gloves offers you protection from sun and road, as well as, palm padding. Vibration can cause hand numbing on longer rides.

  • Cycling Eyewear Protection – Whether sunglasses for the day or clear lenses for night rides, make sure to eliminate the risk of road debris, insects or dust flying in your eyes.

  • Padded Bike shorts – The chamois will help absorb road vibrations and prevent saddle soreness. Compression fabric and padding reduce chafing caused by repetitive leg motion and constant pressure from sitting. Learn more.

  • Jersey with pockets – Consider the convenience of strategically located pockets with garments designed for cycling needs.

  • Planning and tracking a route prepares you for a great ride. See Debra’s favorite local bike camp routes and map your own ahead of time. Use a tracking application on your personal device.
